Khruangbin

It’s not an easy band name to say. I try to say it as often as I can when extolling the virtues of this Houston-based outfit. This is a band that I couldn’t shake — they kept popping up on Spotify and around the blogosphere (if that doesn’t still exist I shall will it into existence) until I had to give them their fair due. And on the surface they aren’t a fit for me: an instrumental threesome informed by international instrumental music. They of the name inspired by Thai funk.

But I gave them their due and before I knew it their groove had fused with my DNA. “Dub”? Is that what I’m into? The bass line and the crispy simple beats? This is maybe something that most people get into and talk about obsessively during sophomore year of college. Well, here I am!

This well-produced Pitchfork set really does the band justice: great sound, psychadelic backdrop, long form, wigs in full flower. Enjoy!
